Bottom line

The evidence supports a narrower conclusion than the broad claim. In an online, cross-sectional sample, bilingual experience was associated with executive-function performance, with the most consistent behavioral expression in task switching. Among older adults, the relationship between COVID-19 history and task-switching performance differed according to second-language age of acquisition.

The study does not establish that bilingualism causally protects cognition after COVID-19, that learning a language after infection would improve recovery, or that the observed pattern generalizes across all executive functions, populations, or illness severities.
